Writing

At Millfield, writing empowers children to communicate clearly and creatively. We encourage them to show Courage when experimenting with language, Ambition in crafting detailed work, Respect by writing with awareness of audience and purpose, Excellence in spelling and grammar, and Spirit by developing their own unique voice.

Pupils develop writing skills through a rich curriculum that covers narrative, poetry, reports, persuasive texts, and more. They learn the writing process step by step – planning, drafting, editing, and publishing – to produce pieces they are proud of.

By reading widely and writing regularly, children build vocabulary, develop grammar knowledge, and gain the confidence to express themselves in many forms.
