Science

Our Science curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and develop a deep understanding of the world around us. It follows the National Curriculum and is structured to build knowledge and skills progressively from the early years through Key Stage 2.

Children explore three main areas of science:

  • Biology – the study of living things, including humans, plants, habitats, and life cycles.
  • Physics – the study of forces, motion, light, sound, electricity, and the Earth in space.
  • Chemistry – the study of materials, their properties, and how they change.

We place a strong emphasis on working scientifically, helping pupils learn how to ask questions, carry out investigations, observe carefully, and interpret evidence. Lessons are designed to connect new learning with prior knowledge, making concepts easier to understand and remember. Vocabulary is taught explicitly to support understanding of key ideas.

Our approach encourages children to think critically, challenge misconceptions, and appreciate the role of science in everyday life. By the end of primary school, pupils will have developed a secure foundation of scientific knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for future learning.
