Computing
Our Computing curriculum establishes the important knowledge in computing to provide a foundation for the technical nature of the subject. We aim for pupils to understand how the technology they use every day has an impact on the world around them, giving pupils the knowledge to express themselves and develop their ideas in real-world contexts.
Our Computing curriculum is fully aligned with the National Curriculum and covers three main strands:
- Computer Science: Programming, algorithms, and understanding how computer systems work.
- Information Technology: Using technology to create, organise, store, and present information.
- Digital Literacy: Using technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly, including e-safety.
Threads in Computing
Key concepts, or 'threads,' run through our curriculum from Year 1 to Year 6:
- Algorithms and data structures
- Computing systems
- Creating media
- Data and information
- Design and development
- Effective use of tools
- Networks
- Programming
- Safety and security
These threads ensure pupils revisit and deepen their understanding as they progress through school.
Our curriculum is designed to ensure all pupils become confident, responsible, and creative users of technology, equipped with the knowledge and skills to solve problems, express themselves, and understand the impact of technology on society.
